Cleaning a leather covered steering wheel

Somewhere, someplace, I saw simple instructions on how to clean the leather cover of a wheel helm. For the life of me, I can't find where I saw this and a search here did not help. I would appreciate some instructions or a link to instructions so I don't mess up my cover. I seem to recall it was a very simple procedure.

The wife says mild soap and water should do the trick on normal dirt. She uses Joy Dish detergent

Thanks Tom! That's what I was thinking but I didn't want to risk the leather coming out rock hard without further input.

Re: Cleaning a leather covered steering wheel

I use plain detergent and mid-hard brush (I use judicious force though).

U can dye the leather too.

If this does not help, I replace the leather.
