Cetol on masts

I've got my masts down and am doing some repairs. I've removed all of the hardware and have all of the spars sanded to bare wood (Sitka Spruce). I'm going to apply as much CPES as the wood will take. Instead of varnishing, I'm thinking of using Cetol Light, the same as I'm using on the teak on the boat. Good idea or not?

Why the bright finish? I'd think about something more UV resistant myself. I like to use WEST thinned with MEK and soak it good, then a couple of coats of WEST brushed on nice and chemical bonded to fill the grain. Then I sand it out to 180 to get out any hangers and drips in the epoxy and apply a couple of coats of 545. Then sand the 545 to 400 and brush apply sterling or awlgrip. It'll last a good ten years like that and seal your stick up real good. Just my 2c.

Re: Cetol on masts

I like the look of the bright work, specially my sticks. Also lets me see problems before they become problems.
