Catana Dagger Boards

It seems that Catana Dagger Boards are not designed to the same strength as the rest of the boat. I have seen and heard of them shattering under stress - and minor bumps.

Sooner break the dagger board than the boat. It makes sense to have the board lighter spec than the hull that surrounds it.

I broke one on a delivery a few years back, going to weather in 30-35kn, making 8-9kn, we went airborne and by the tinme w landed the boat was moving sideways enough to snap the board.

In future I would 1) raise the board when boat speed got over 6 kn, there is little to no leeway by then anyway. 2) I would slow down sooner ( at the time I was trying to make a nasty headland before dark)

I was very impressed with the Catana, I even like the steering position - it works.
