Carribean/Central American refit

In Asia Phuket, Thailand seems to be THE place to have major work done on your boat because of low labor costs and relatively high quality work.

Is there somewhere in the Carribean/Central American region where people go for the same thing?

My plan is to buy an old boat and do a complete refit. Thailand would be good for the latter but not the former since the number of boats for sale is quite low. Obviously the Carribean doesn't have that problem so I'm looking around there for a good place to get work done there.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance!!
