fstbttms, you make your agenda quite clear when you are so vehement about it. Both of us know that super toxic, illegal and legal substances can easily be mixed into wax, and a sort of short-term antifouling can be made. This is unpopular, ineffective, and illegal. However, I have never seen a barnacle grow on mercury.

Greg, you might just get away with this if and its a big if, you keep the boat moving and polish again to within an inch of its life. Tie it up in a marina for a month and its game over. If you do have to stop you need to lift her straight back on to the trailer.

The other advantage you have is the cold water, slime, weed and barnacles still grow, just slower.

However, you have already waxed the hull, so to change to paint means taking all that wax off, every little bit of it and if you have a smooth gelcoat then sanding it so the paint can adhere to the hull. This is a one way ticket, you can't go back to shinney GRP.

For years I have a series of ribs for diving, normally kept on trailers. We left the dive club rib in Portsmouth harbour during one summer for 5 weeks without her moving. The fouling was so bad that a normal house hold pressure washer wouldn't remove it so we scraped it with a length of 4 x 2" Lesson learnt, keep it moving or lift it out.

might want to try the chilli powder,in the caribean we used to boost our anti fouling paint by mixing in copper oxide powder and anti biotics in powder form.

a lot of the wooden boat guys round here use stockholm tar under the waterline.
there is also an electric thing that supposedly works emmitting a high frequency signal.

Personally? No. I have seen it in use, never seems to last for long.

Hi Pete7,

In my experience, you can skip sanding clean gelcoat. Pettit's 6999 sandless primer works well, providing you have thoroughly removed the wax.

hey in portugal goose neck barnacles are a delicacy,with wax and chili,they will be almost organicly home grown,pre infused with chili.
100 euro a kilo in portugal,at least the op will be able to feed himself cheaply..............
