Clove Hitch works without the need to drill holes, rounded spare or 2X4.
Or perhaps an Anchor Hitch....

. So what keeps the pvc from scratching the hull topsides? Also PVC doesn't have much give....

I used fenders between the PVC pipe and the hull: Fender Roller as opposed to Fender Board. The pipe has plenty give, weathered a few hurricanes using those things.

Tool use may be unfamiliar to him. It was to me, but it can be learned.

I should introduce you. When he posed the question I think my mouth hung agape for a moment. Honestly, I thought it was a fun (entertaining) question.

But what is so surprising? People buy bridles and plastic gizmos for splicing that are 1/2 the strength of a bowline. I'm not surprised.

Lets really think outside the box here. Rather than buying a commercial board, go to Home Depot and for the same amount of money, find a 18volt drill on sale and a 2x6 . You then have your fender board and a drill than you will need again in a week or two.

Of course for the price of the premade ones, you could buy a piece of lumber, a cheap drill and go out for a really nice dinner.

Plus you wind up with a drill as a bonus.

Hang about a moment... Let me get this straight..... Two chunks of line tied to a 2X4 is a no-can-do scenario? Too difficult as a DIY project? Really? And all the above noted examples for easily drilling a chunk of lumber are beyond capabilities? Good lord......

The mind boggles to imagine the consequences should this boater put to sea and have something break/go wrong with no store-bought spare to hand. And with "no tools" to effect repair.

Out of curiosity, I spent a little time with my friend Google looking to buy fender boards and guess what? RainDog (see his previous post) might very well be the solution. Or maybe just amble into the nearest waterfront tavern and put the job out for bid.

Something the french came up with. Problem is,they change the terminology & units weekly it seems.
My VPenta takes Deka ltrs of oil-not ltrs mind you.
Wind speed is now meters/sec. Last week it was km/h.
Air pressure was kilopascals-now it's bars.
and so on-ad infinitum...

No-I don't need any lessons in multiplying by 10. Just bugs me that the terms keep changing.Hopefully they will soon run out of famous frenchmen to name these units after.

The PVC sounds like a really good option.
