bulkhead tabbing

I have an old tank, late 60`s fiberglass 36c Seafarer Ketch. The tabbing has seperated from the hull in a few areas. This tabbing runs the entire length of the bulkheads, wouldn`t this cause hard spots in the hull? What`s up with this,it has never been done over so do I keep with the program and repair it the same way? Thanks

We faced a similiar problem in a previous boat. We removed the fiberglass from the wood, checked the wood for rot and moisture problems, replaced wood where necessary and then retabbed. In our case the problem was caused by moisture getting behind the fiberglass and into the underlying wood. We repaired it rather than have soft spots under important things like bulkheads.

Re: bulkhead tabbing

Not at all an uncommon issue w/older boats. Unless there's moisture damage to the bulkhead, this is caused by constant expansion/contraction of the bulkheads along with the boats regular use ie being sailed, pounding, rigging stain on the chainplates.
Not a big deal real. As long as ur bulkheads are solid.... Just either shoot in some west systems 6-10 or mix up some epoxy w/coloidial cylica spread it along the bulkhead. Then though bolt it w/stainless nuts, bolts and washers. Clean up any epoxy that squeezes out and ur good to go.
Or u can spend a lot of time n money stripping it all out and redo everything?!?!...
