Building a watertight companionway

We rebuilt our companionway using a Lewmar ocean 70 watertight hatch. We are very pleased with how it has turned out. We have more pictures and details here:

This idea was inspired by Roger Taylor's Ming Ming II and also ocean going rowboats. The hatch is easy to get in and out of, strong, watertight. We thought about trying a Griffith hatch to keep costs down, but decided to go with the lewmar to save time and ensure the hatch is watertight.

Our boat is an Allied Seawind sloop and the job was straightforward once the design was worked out.
