BROZE PORT OPENINGS

Hey there, I have a chance to buy 4 used bronze opening ports (oval 10"x18"). I was thinking I would remove the old 12"x24" plexiglass (2 per side) windows on my Triton 28. I plan on dueing some off shore sailing and would feel better with some smaller ports. Plus they will match all the rest of the ports on the boat. I relize I will have to fill in the opening with fiberglass and then cut out for the new ports. My question is multi part. (1) is this an ok idea to even attempt (2) if so, what would be the best way to fill in the oversized openings (3) the used ports dont come with an outside attaching plate/ring, do I need to have one or are some ports installed without them? Thanks

Here is a link to a page (scroll down a little) of how I did the same thing. I used a router to cut the thickness of the perimeter of the opening to 1/2 of what it was so I had a good overlap for the new fiberglass cloth. The finished product looks as though is was original.
