Bristol 32 steering post problem

My 1973 Bristol 32 has a very loose lower connection, rudder to hull. It appears that there was a fitting of some sort that fit though the bottom of the keel and held the bottom of the steering post in place. There is now a round, open hole and a lot of play in the rudder. Does anyone know what fitting I need and where to get it?

Re: Bristol 32 steering post problem

Check out the last post in the thread linked below.

I believe it describes what you are dealing with.

Hopefully some Bristol 32 owners will post as well.

Re: Bristol 32 steering post problem

Could you post a photo? Are you a welder or have a positive personal relationship with one? With the rudder flat against the aft edge of the keel, there must be a pretty simple plate at the bottom attaching the bottom of the rudder to the bottom of the keel, and shielding both from bottom damage. I'm thinking pretty simple fabrication. There is a Bristol 32 website that might also steer (ouch) you to some leads.
