boooooom!
The boat I am looking at needs a new boom (or to fix the existing boom) So far Don's Marine Salvage in Fl is the only place I have been able to find with new old stock / used booms. I am looking for something a tad over 17', so not a little dink spar.

I'm looking for one that is around 10' or just over for my Westerly, and Don's seems to be the only place I could find too.
Buying a new extrusion from a spar maker can get quite costly, especially if you need all the fittings too.

Don's Salvage has a pretty good reputation around here ...

These are the used-gear guys locally, but I don't know whether they have booms. Blue Pelican Marine Nautical Consignments - Home
You might check around with riggers. I know the fellow I use has a bunch of spars behind his warehouse.

Re: boooooom!
what is "wrong" with the old one? You could repair it if it's developing a stress crack, often this can be done making it BETTER than the original design. More info needed.

Re: boooooom!
I've currently got at least three full rigs sitting abandoned on our mast rack in the boatyard, all of them quite nice sticks. Post exact dimensions needed and I'll see if we have anything for ya. Prolly too far to ship for cheap though. Anyone else that needs a nice big alu stick can PM me. I got one really nice one that looks to be over 70'.

Cheechako, I tried uploading a picture... lets see if it works... if not I will upload it elsewhere and link to it. Stress fracture at the boomvang. My suspicion is an unexpected / uncontrolled jibe.

Have you guys tried this guy in Kemah, Tx.? Boaters' Resale Shop of Texas 713-614-8884. I know he has booms, I just don't know what kind or size.

Just the stick, not including the gooseneck, or the endcap with the reefing sheeves is 16' 10". I don't have the overall measurement yet.

Re: boooooom!
Unless you find a replacement locally, it will likely be cheaper (and perhaps better) to repair your old boom. The usual practice is to weld up the crack and add a sleeve, either internally or externally. Will be stronger than original and you know that all the hardware will fit properly. Ask a local rigger for an estimate...
Cheers,
Jim

Re: boooooom!
By any chance does the boat have a hydraulic boom vang? That could be the source of the damage. If not used correctly , they can put a lot of strain on a boom. __Just a thought.______Grant.
