Boatbuilder's Handbook Downloads

I thought this link below might be a useful tool for the CF. It states some of the USCG regulations for construction/safety and can be downloaded in a PDF file.

This would be a good thread to refer questions to, about regulations that come up so often and would help alleviate some arguments as to right/wrong installations.

It would even make a good "sticky" in the Construction, Maintenance and Refit Forum (Admin ?)

Thanks! Even if it doesn't comply with one's own country's requirements, it's good general principles.

Re: Boatbuilder's Handbook Downloads

Thanks for the info here. I've started researching requirements for boat building. I haven't seen the boatbuilder's handbook until now. I've seen lots of references to Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) part 33 and others. Also some of the CFRs are referenced in the handbook. The most updated versions are available for download from the Government Printing Office.

And this page on the USCG site has "pertinent parts of the Code of Federal Regulations to Recreational Boating Safety": Federal Regulations

I'm still looking into this but thought these might be useful.

Thanks, delmarrey, for your links as well.

Re: Boatbuilder's Handbook Downloads

The Boatbuilder's Handbook is part of the package sent by the Coast Guard when you receive your MIC. [manufacturer's identification code] This allows pro builders to create HIN s [hull id numbers] for the vessels that they have built. Inspectors periodically come to the shop to make sure that our boats are built to the safety standards set out by this handbook and the CFRs. It really should be part of an amateur builder's library as well

Re: Boatbuilder's Handbook Downloads

That's good to know. I found a site for looking up the MIC's. There's more makers out there than I thought.

I thought it would be interesting to try starting something up but it seems a bit out of reach. Still researching at the moment.
