Boat Yard advice

My wife and I are flying out next week (Mon 19th May) to look at potentially, our next boat.
The boat is in Fort Lauderdale at the moment and a deposit has been paid, so we are serious about the purchase.

She is in need of a fair bit of TLC, the only concern I have is finding an affordable yard that will allow us to do the a lot of the work ourselves over a period of 6 to 12 months, we have some fairly big jobs to get done as well so we would be looking for a yard that offers skilled and experienced trades also.

The boat is 30T & 54ft.

Any advice would be really helpful..

Here are the DIY yards in Fort Lauderdale.

Do not use Playboy Marine for that six to twelve month project, their daily rate increases $9 every two weeks, the other two yards are constant.

Try to complete the project more quickly, to keep some dollars in your pocket.

Wanna hear a funny about that? Although it's a traditional name in those parts, apparently it means "foreskin" in Yiddish. Her name really raised some eyebrows with her Grandmas Jewish friends (G-Ma lives in Manhattan)! Lots of chuckles before an explanation could be brought forth...

or if you don't mind going 200 miles further north, westland marina in titusville is a terrific working yard. you can do just about anything - even spray painting if you tent your boat first.

If the boat is in good enough shape, the first thing I would do is leave Ft. Lauderdale. There are much more affordable yards in places like St. Augustine, Green Cove Springs, etc. Try oasis boat yard in St. Augustine. If you must stay in South Florida I like Lauderdale Marine Center on the New River, or Seminole boat yard in Palm Beach Gardens. Good luck!

That's the kind of thing I was looking for, I will find out next week if the boat is in a condition to leave and head further north, where I guess the yards are more affordable.

Jings Man, I've never heard that meaning of Orla before, we have good friends that have named their daughter after our boat, I won't be telling them your Yiddish meaning
