Boat equipment and systems inventory database

I have been living and cruising on my current boat for 6 years and have collected a huge amount of information about all the equipment, fittings and systems. This info includes specification details, parts lists, manuals and other maintenance and service advice.

Most of this info is stored on various PC hard drives, thumb drives, discs etc all over the place and I am trying to get it all together into some sort of database inventory so that I can find stuff when I need it.

I will probably end up with a spreadsheet, but I was wondering whether anyone knew of any other software or off-the-shelf platform which would allow me to save the details and link each item to relevant documents?

Re: Boat equipment and systems inventory database

Discussed this a a couple of months ago and I knocked up a simple MS Access database that can be extended.
It's linked here:

If you want to give it a try and make suggestions for additional functionality, feel free.

(It would be fairly simple to create document/photo links to other files)

Re: Boat equipment and systems inventory database

After playing around with a few database options, I've found Evernote is the only thing which actually works. Very powerful search function, anything and everything goes in there, locker contents, saved web sites pages, manuals, data sheets, filter sizes, local harbour chartlets, scans of boat certs. Anything you can think of.
