Here are a few pictures. It's a fairly long bimini/dodger combo. All the side canvas/screens and windows are off as we prepped for Hanna.
I did the same thing (though mine didn't look quite as nice) as bottle. Swapping out the straps for bar stock with slap jaws (so the tension can be adjusted a bit) was all that I did on my bimini. It had 1" stainless, and took 2, 150-watt panels with nary a squeek. Having the rods is an excellent idea.
