Best TV antenna for Masthead in Aust

I am sick of dodgy TV reception and will be pulling the mast in the next few months for some work. So I thought I should bight the bullet and fit a good antenna very high up the mast.
I am not sure how many Aussies frequent this forum but if like most other sites, probably lots. I just cannot seem to get any information on which is the better antenna available. Whitworths in Aust are stocking a number of sorts of omnidirectional antenna ranging from an $89.95 cheapie to a Shakespear sea watch for $299.95, in-between are a GME for $199.95 and a Majestic UFO for $249.00. Failing anything else I would probably go for the GME, mid price and always had good success with GME products. Mounting is not an issue as I do my own SS fabrication and can make anything fit.
Thoughts?

Cheers

Peter

We have a Majestic UFO fitted to our Lipari and very please. The power supply base failed just before the Ashes but they replaced it with the new improved version very quickly no questions asked. Perfect timing. Great service and nice product.

Re: Best TV antenna for Masthead in Aust

I tried two omnidirectional antennas, both well known brands, and was dissatisfied with both.

This article summarizes and compares the main types of antenna.

I'd have to agree with the article. Omnidirectional antennas are used in boats as they are small and as the boat swings at anchor the reception remains steady, provided there is a clear path to the transmitter.

Regrettably I've found that I usually anchor in sheltered bays where reflected signals are a pain in the ^#@&.

Almost all TV transmission outside of cities is UHF, so an antenna for VHF is wasted.

I'm currently using a small phased array caravan antenna and it works well enough that I don't throw it in the spare parts bin.

If I was to buy another I'd probably try a small Yagi.
