Re: Best glue for repairing teak wood on deck

i recall using resorcinol glue, circa 1950, to laminate teak for making a salad bowl in shop. It was an exercise in using a lathe dog. I'd bet it is still around and still glued together.

Re: Best glue for repairing teak wood on deck

If you are intending to remove both pieces clean up edge surfaces to be glued and then glue and clamp use Techniglue, West System product, it can manage slight gaps.
If you intend gluing in situ I doubt resorcinol or epoxy shall adequately saturate all edge surfaces and attain adequate strength.
Replace with a fresh piece of timber for the optimal strength and appearance.

Re: Best glue for repairing teak wood on deck

I have had good luck with hardwood epoxy

It can be sourced in AU and NZ.

Many good answers. What about Cascamite? Waterproof, acts as filler, sets rock hard. Just need to watch shelf life and storage.

Re: Best glue for repairing teak wood on deck

Trying to get better about following up on threads I start.

I did end up using West epoxy, as I had it on hand and it seemed a plenty viable glue to use. Worked well (did wet it out unthinned first then used some thickened), after clean up of the still uncured epoxy I can only see a very tiny line where the break used to be (i.e. it's not invisible, but close to it). We shall see how it fairs with UV (although when the boat is not out cruising the dinghy lives on top of this hatch so no UV exposure except when we're actively using the boat).

Unsure if it is as strong as the original unbroken piece on the other side, but anyone I catch stepping on it is in big trouble anyway!

Thanks for everyone's input.
