Are there any reasonable flooring alternatives?

Ours weren't that heavy. It's not a lightweight material, but it's quite thin, just a couple of mm. I'd say they weigh somewhere between 1 and 2 kg per square metre.

Great news... Mine was a Home Depot quick buy cause I only needed a little, and not for the sole... I used a tiny bit for a small sink surround, and thought... "My God... If I actually used this for flooring, I'd have to take 200 lb off!"

I've been thinking about using some of the extra 5/8 Strand bambo I did my floors in the house with. Sure it's heavy but the boat could use a little more ballast... . It's tounge and grove and tuffer than nails. I've boil tested the stuff to make sure it would'nt get damaged from say a leaky dishwasher. It stood up to 4hrs of boiling with no visible affects to it. You can hit it with a hammer and it will not dent. I know from the install... However if you're looking for light weight not the way to go.

I did have a friend use some leftover oak/pergo clip together type stuff in his Bayfield 32. It looks great! It also has the advantage of being thin and lightweight. As well it's relatively cheap and you don't need much to do a boat anyways.

there are a lot of decent engineered hardwood floors available- pre-finished, thin, and lightweight.. If it's not flat, and because of things like bilge openings, I would look for a glue down with a laminated core. anywhere from $1.00 to $3.00 per sq. ft.

I put the vinyl planks in an RV, Used a paper cutter to cut them, the paper cutter cuts perfect 90 degree ends so they will butt up to each other perfectly

I prefer non-skid decks under my feet. Simple, effective, inexpensive. All of the pictures you have seen on this thread show shiny decks. Shiny means slippery when wet. Even coating cork with polyurethane makes them slippery. Think about this before making your decision.

The vinyl we have has a low sheen finish with a "wood" grain imprinted. It isn't too slippery. A lot less slippery than varnished floorboards for instance.

We just did the floors on our house with a mix of carpet and floating timber floors.
When looking around for the bits think I saw those planks of yours at Andersons and thought they might be good for our boat.
Did you glue them down and are they any good if the floor/deck is not flat I mean curved.

Yes, the planks are glued down. I was lucky enough to get a loan of a proper roller for laying them, which certainly helps to get a nice finish. You need to get the correct adhesive too. It's NOT contact - that wrecks them.

I guess they'd handle a bit of curvature OK, the vinyl is quite flexible. It would just be a matter of holding them in place till the glue dried.

Agreed I like none skid as well, but if you're replacing damamged teak and holly whats the difference? Besides almost any of the prefinished wood floors will take another coat of varnish that you could use silica in... For a 50 can of varnish and some silica sand you have nonskid hardwood for a fraction of the teak and holy ply boards.
