You can take the man out of the art gallery, but you never take the art gallery out of the man.

James, when you get a chance, could you post a little bit about how you did those wonderful overheads? They look really sweet...and very professional.
I've seen your work Chris and its top drawer...looking forward to the pics.

Thanks again all for the kind words.
Chris...the head liner was simple and pretty much how you would imagine it.
Its basically foam backed vinyl glued on to 6mm plywood with contact cement...the edges of the vinyl are folded over the edges of the plywood and also glued ...then Velcro strips are stapled through the folded over vinyl and int the ply.
I screwed furing strips (20mm thick x 40mm wide) to the underside of the cored deck, then stapled Velcro to it...this give a nice chase for wiring and room for HDF insulation.
In the raised salon I wanted to have a bit of style so I used several smaller panels though the center section.
The big trick is when folding the vinyl over the plywood at the corners... to not fold the very corner its self...rather cut it back so that it just covers the edge of the ply and leave the little tit that sticks out. If you try to fold it over...when the corners of four panels meet it will show an opening at the intersection.
I only wrapped one test panel myself, then had a local upholster shop do the rest.
Another important thing was making a tool that would let me pull the panels off...it was a piece of 4mm SS rod that I beat the end flat to less then 1mm thick, then bent it 90%.

Very very nice James; the lights are spectacular and I like the deck beams with the hanging knees holding it all up. So many many little bits and pieces...

Best, Bob S/V Restless

Thank you for the description James! The pic below is something similar that I admired on the Discovery 55 at the Annapolis show. Same look, plus those varnished hardwood strips are sweet. All velcro huh? Thats a great idea!

I just showed the pictures of your boat to my wife. She says it doesn't even look like the same boat she sailed on. You've done a wonderful job.
