Any opinions on filing copper and lead dust in the anti-fouling?

Yes, I know. Even the thought of it makes some sailors go mad.

...but

I know for a fact that leaving the boat in the water alone even for a week causes serious growth in here (Istanbul). Is filing copper and lead into the anti-fouling paint a better alternate than renewing the anti-foul every season?

as the saying goes "their ain't no free lunch" best bet is to use a high quality anti foul the next time you paint with 3 coats.

if you can find it in turkey "tamarin" made in israel is the best as contains tbt.

i really can reccomend Tamarin anti fouling if you can get it,will last 3years in the med or 1-2 in tropical waters,i also think it is possable to buy legally in turkey.

other wise these guys may be able to get some to marmaris for you as have an agent there Seacrest Marine Charter

If "improving" an existing anti fouling product was as easy as simply pouring copper filings into it, everybody would do it. But they dont. Because it doesn't work.

As far as the possibility of your using a TbT-based anti fouling paint- there is a reason most of the civilized world has adopted the ban on this stuff. It's nasty poison that is still actively damaging the environment. Just because you can buy it doesn't mean you should buy it.

Tributyltin (TBT) is an active ingredient in certain antifouling paints (and) is one of the most dangerous substances ever deliberately introduced into the marine environment.
