Looks like an accumulator tank to stop the freshwater pump from cycling too often. It looks like it is plastic so I doubt it is for use in the fuel system.

I would support Cheechako's suggestion - hydraulic tank for steering/autopilot.
The very stiff hose will be reinforced for pressure and the valve on the top is likely to be a bleed valve or similar. A royal pain in the whatsis if you need to do anything to the system.
On the off chance it is just a pressure accumulator for your water system, the valve in the top is a schraeder valve and again, needs access to pressure test/top-up if needed.
On the other hand, it could be one of those widgets that do their secret thing to something, somewhere - sorry!

His post 23 seemed to be the response with real 'knowledge' but then you as the OP discount it in post 27 by confirming they are 'fuel' lines going to the tank. Then in the very next post 28, you come back and confirm 23 is correct, which I'm guessing means you were wrong when you confirmed they were 'fuel' lines and confirmed the mystery is solved in post 35.

I discounted 23 in 27 as I had not seen 23. He was absolutely spot on. Sometimes it takes a while with a new to you boat to find out what everything is and where. Not in any manuals and did not exist on previous boats.

Anyone who has hydraulic systems should know...
Anyone with a fresh water pump SHOULD know.... unless newbies and they have a modern variable pressure pump, then they are forgiven...

My best guess goes with Boatman61 - perhaps a device to prevent water (/air) intrusion into the fuel tank (/lines) during a knock-down or roll-over.

If one end goes to the external breather (fuel tank air inlet) and the other to the fuel tank, then that is probably pretty clear (keeping seawater out of the tank as above).

If the device is in-line between the tank and the motor then maybe it is some kind of secondary filter, or perhaps more likely, for stopping the fuel-line becoming air-locked during a knock-down?
