Antifouling before or after storage
I'm going to store my boat on land for seven months. What is the best.
Apply the new antifouling just after hauling out before storing it..... or
Just before launch after storing it.
Thanks

Best to wait until before launch.

Yes, before launch. The stuff is meant to get wet as soon as it dries on the hull.

2-5 days before launch.

Most bottom paints allow 60 days between application and launch........
Also, if you had a time problem near your launch date, you could apply now and before launch go over with a stiff brush
All this info should be on your paint manufacturer's website or on the paint can itself

Re: Antifouling before or after storage
No point on letting months of dust and air pollution build up on the bottom paint while in storage.

Some folks have restrictions on their time in the boatyard which is why I pointed out the alternative of painting early.
Here when the boatyards Winter Storage deal if over the weather can still be quite cold and sometimes be below freezing
Too cold to paint ........ at or near launch time
When I did this in 2015, I just paid the premium much high boatyard fee for another couple months and launched/painted in April.

Re: Antifouling before or after storage
Our boat was involuntarily stored for 9 months after I did the antifouling. Even though the antifoul was supposedly still good, it was in such a state when it was finally ready for launch it had to done all over again!

Re: Antifouling before or after storage
O.J.s Marine in Seabrook TX told me that if the boat is not going directly into the water you must use an ablative type paint. Traditional bottom paints loose their ability to resist marine growth in just a few days of being dry.
Whereas ablative paints do not since they act in a completely different way then traditional hard bottom paints.

Re: Antifouling before or after storage
I have seen many boats which were antifouled as soon as they were out for the winter storage, they all had to be redone, especially as the rain had eroded the paint when it flowed out the scuppers, down the hull and left a nice stained area below.

Clean and sand now, more prep and paint before launch.

Re: Antifouling before or after storage
All ablative multi seasons paints like Pettit Hydrocoat are not affected by air , and I use it to paint my bottom in fall after the boat is out out of the water. No problem. In my opinion launching boats while paint is not totally dry will not be as good since the paint is not really dry troughout.

Re: Antifouling before or after storage
Disclaimer: I don't know anything about this boat paint stuff.
However! Seems like painting before storage would lock in any moisture, which seems bad, and allow for damage to be done to the paint during storage by the supports and transport equipment.
In addition to all the stuff the smart people have said before me
