Antifoul Over Abc3?

Hi guys, in portugal and we cannot get abc3 antifoul. Just need a top up as we were done 15 months ago. Any idea which other antifouls are compatible.

Re: antifoul over abc3?

Haven't heard of ABC3, were did you have this done?

When you say "top up" in Europe most paints are annual. If you stick to Seajet, International or Blakes you should find something suitable locally. You can then check the manufacturers website to see if the are compatable. The only one to avoid is VC Offshore as nothing sticks to this next time around, oh and its rubbish antifoul paint.

Re: Antifoul Over Abc3?

Sorry, to be clear she has been out of the water for the last 7 months, so only had 7 months in water with current antifoul, thus only needs top up. Abc3 is the ameron / ppg product very widely used in the carribean/ usa but the Portugese dont have it.

Re: Antifoul Over Abc3?

Any ablative paint should work.

Edit: One of the advantages of Ameron abc 3 is that it is a "hard" ablative, also called a tugboat ablative, etc. Unlike many paints it can be drydocked for months without needing to be replaced. I have known people to be hauled for four months, and all they did was a light scuffing to expose some fresh paint, and splash.
I don't know about 7 months, but if it was me I'd take a 3M Scotchpad or similar to it and give it a try.
Save some money anyway.

Re: Antifoul Over Abc3?

My understanding is ABC3 is the most common antifouling on commercial shipping.

I would give Ameron a call and get their take.

I have abc also.mdid a freshen up on a low tide last month, abc fixed with some petit aluma. Seemed to dry fine and has not fallen off yet. Will do 2,000 miles this summer and report back.
