Anti-Foul Painting Question

My recently purchased boat was painted with Sea Hawk 5 years ago and bottom was cleaned religiously so it held up. Its $300 a gallon in Panama so I am
going with Hempell paint or Interlux. Can anyone tell me if you can paint over Seahawk with these other paints. I need it to stay on.

Thanks James

Sea Hawk produces a number of antifoulings, which will likely have very different compatibility characteristics:

Many antifouling paint manufacturers provide compatibility charts that list competing products that their product is (or isn't) compatible with.

I've noticed that the (Interlux ACT) antifouling paint bonds with itself each successive coat, meaning that each coat liquefies/melds into the underlying coat(s) and becomes a single thicker coat. Compare that to the (different manufacturer) previous layer of paint that requires a rough sanded surface to form the bond between itself and the new paint.

In other words, there is 'compatible', and then there is compatible.
