Re: And so it Begins: The Teak Deck Removal Project

Well I haven't posted some photos in a while, but will dig some up.
The good news is that the project is progressing nicely. I would be working on it today, but alas...it is raining. But at least the deck is now completely water proof and I'm currently working on laying the 4 layers of fiberglass/epoxy.

Re: And so it Begins: The Teak Deck Removal Project

Any update on this project Rich?
Seriously thinking of taking on this project for s/v Chrokeva in the next month or so and would love to get some input on how things went on Third Day.

Re: And so it Begins: The Teak Deck Removal Project

Well...lets see what good excuse I can come up with for not finishing the project yet....my Cat ate my homework?

The truth is I got all the rotten core out, that wasn't that bad and I have the first two layers of new fiberglass mat down. So the deck is now water proof and then the California wet winter hit so it's sat for the winter. I'm firing back up the remaining layers of fiberglass now and then prepping the area for paint and Kiwi Grip. I'm honestly now sure I will finish it all this summer...but that is the story I'm telling my wife who wants is DONE. We are heading back to Mexico in 14 months...so I gotta get my butt moving!!!

Re: And so it Begins: The Teak Deck Removal Project

The wet weather is a pretty good excuse and is what got us thinking it would be good to just get rid of those decks.
Sounds like you have actually gotten quite a bit done considering the wet winter....would love to see some photos when you get a chance.
Also glad to hear you are planning to go back to Mexico! We have had some recent conversations of doing the same .
