Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project
Thanks Warby! Appreciate it.
So today's tasks in the shed were fixing a bubble, aligning some stringers and setting some frame/bulkheads in place. Lot of naval gazin' went on with plenty of ponderin' too!
Web log updated: http://she-kon.blogspot.ca/2015/09/bubb ... heads.html
Sanding day & possibly bedding the stringers (aft section) tomorrow.
Standby.....

It's good to periodically stand back and try to gain fresh perspective. Also good to completely get away from the project for a few days. Sitting on a mountain top works for me.

Thanks Zack & TN.
Morning briefing.
The stringers, like everything else, want to slide down the hull into the keel. Every step I take in there they work their way downwards and away from the transom. So this morning I lined them up again and am welding them to the bottom.
Using slow hardener on a cool day so it'll be awhile before I go and put some tape on them. Once this cures up I'll be able to move around the boat without worrying about the stringers migrating to the bilge.
Standby....

Some of you may have already seen this on Facebook this morning. I hit an area with the router where I spliced the two sections of stringer together and there was a lot of epoxy glue that oozed out. I got showered in schmutz!
Go ahead let me have it! I can take all your jokes!

I think you need to print a copy and hang it in the shed....
Somebody with some editing skillz could make that into a sweet boat logo for you...

Thanks Happy. That's one pic I'd sooner just forget, thank you very much! Wasn't my brightest moment!
We got a logo worked up. Gonna try to get the wife to embroider them on some t-shirts. She's got one of those computer sewing machines for that stuff.

All right then... since ya already got somethin' else figgered out...
Grindin' wet epoxy into lead yields the same results just in case you were curious... No pictures but I have a pair of pants with a permanently sealed fly...
Can't wait for a pic of the skipper behind the helm with his logo shirt on... And don';t forget to have a few stickers made up too... For our scooters ya know!

Probably be something very simple Happy. Like this maybe.
We're lookin' at bulk wholesale shirts on FleaBay. Maybe the ole' girl will get to it this winter. When they're ready I'll send you one.
One of the worst epoxy mistakes I made was spilling some on the basement floor then pulling the carpet over it to hide it from the boss!

I LIKE IT!
And hellz yes, I'm in!
Don't forget local for the source either... We gotta an ad in our tiny town rag that advertises $4/white T/1 color print... I think the min is 20? 50?
Best advise I ever got was from minaret... (actually I don't think min has any bad advice...at least out of the 3,128 things he's helped me with)

You should see my carbon fiber toed boots. Turn a messy negative into a positive! I was getting so much resin and carbon scrap on this particular pair while building a carbon hull, I decided I'd just go with it. So every day for awhile in the middle of my layup, I'd put little cutoff scraps on the toes of my boots. Next day while grinding for prep, grind the feet too while you're at it, for prep. Then more carbon. Result is super light bombproof Xtra Tuffs with carbon fiber toes and shank. Very stylish! Also nice when you are doing stringers and bulkheads in a hull, because you are always grinding right next to your feet.

Oh man that's awesome!!!
I like the image of "a little grind for the boat prep... a little grind for the boot prep"
PICS PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS- I used the last of my kevlar thank god.... NEVER EVER AGAIN unless it goes deep into the layup... What a pain that crap is...

Lol, I'll get you a pic!
Good lesson on the aramid. Only if it's buried deep; which kinda defeats the purpose of abrasion resistance, doesn't it? It's an expensive gimmick. Wouldn't own a boat with Kevlar in it. I like boats which are possible to repair!

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project
Back into the shed after some family business & nasty weather got in the way. Mixed up some goop and bedded the aft section of the stringers in place. This is really hard on my hands mixing glue so I pulled the ole' Lady's hand mixer out of the kitchen and whipped up a few batches!
After some putzin' around I managed to get the aft section of the stringers bedded, filleted and taped (just one layer before my hands gave out).
Fillets turned out pretty good this time. I used a cut up bondo squeegee.
A few more pics & such on the blog update today: http://she-kon.blogspot.ca/2015/10/bedd ... ngers.html
Standby....
