Thnx for looking in SmartMove. She's ecstatic about the new sewing room. She's stuck in San Antonio for another month and really anxious to get home and get working!

So, actually going to work really messes up a good boat building project but not for the next little while (if ever). The project I was working on is running behind schedule, contracting issues, so it's back to the boat shed for me.

I was very very sloppy with the last glass job on the keel so spent about 4 hrs cleaning that up with the sander. Didn't take any pics but I've updated my web log: M/V She:Kon: Sandinsanity & Acetone

Hung the 10 oz satin weave on the sides in prep for tomorrow's epoxy session. I'm just a little nervous about this step. This 10 oz stuff isn't exactly easy to work with.

Another productive day in the Big Blue Boat shed and a milestone (sort of) reached. The last layer of glass went on the port side today. That's the last glass on the outside of the hull. Onto fairing from here. Who's got a favorite fairing compound recipe to share?

Can you give an estimate of your layup thicknesses for your hull and keel? Also, what thickness plywood was used. Apologies if this has already been covered.

Looking forward to seeing that hull out in the daylight so we can see what she really looks like!

Hi Steve

At the bottom of the keel there's 8 layers of glass, 4 x 17 oz biax and 4 12 oz biax 0/90. There's an extra layer of 20 oz carbon fiber (Saertex) on the first half of the keel and around the bow. As for thickness I'd say the keel is about 5/16" thick. The rest of the hull is 3 layers, 1 x 17 oz, 1 x 12 oz 0/90 and 1 x 10 oz satin weave. The same weights will go on the inside.

We should get our first glimpse of the entire boat when we flip it in the spring. Standby...

I normally mix up about 500 ml (1/2 li or 16 oz) batch at a time at 70 degs. More than that with the medium hardener and it goes off in the paint tray. If I had a helper I could probably do 3/4 or a liter. Temperature also affects pot life so sometimes you have to adjust.

Use a clean mixing bucket each time. A used bucket with epoxy that's already kicked can ruin a batch in a very short period of time. I have about 10 mixing buckets on the go for a job like this.
