But I would say you were fortunate to be that far inland, otherwise ....

-27C this morning. Time to break out the long sleeve shirts!

Been almost a couple of months since we fixed the shed roof. Glad to report it's holding up well.



The battens hold up a bit more snow but it doesn't seem to be an issue.

Looking forward to getting in there and getting back at it in the spring.

I think you sent some our way. We've had a week of +6 to +10 C temps! Almost all the snow we've gotten this year is gone.

Got into the shed to see how things were. Everything's still where I left it. The patches are holding well.



Really looking forward to getting back in there in the spring and getting at it!

If you're contemplating building one of these types of sheds don't use shrink-wrap plastic!

I hadn't really thought of the perspective of your shed until this photo with the little shed in fron. That is one big assed boat building shed!

Hope you can get the repairs done before the next winter storm... Loooks like a bit of respite from snow etc. right now...

Fixed..... again



Hopefully it'll hold up till spring and I can fix it properly. Now I can go to Mexico for 10 days and not have to worry about snow collapsing it all in!

For Ex-Cal the shed is 22' x 32' x 16' high.



The boat is 31' 5" xy 10' 4" so there's not a whole lotta extra room inside.

I still look in there once in awhile to see what's going on. The only progress around here has been in keeping my boat shed from being destroyed by Mother Nature. Should be back at it full time in the spring.

Well Mother Nature's still dicking us around a bit but I can't wait. Got out in the shed yesterday to do some cleanup. Got the epoxy dispenser filled and some stuff picked up. Surveyed the hull to see what kind of mess I left myself in last fall when I screwed up. Here's the voids in the laminate I'll have to deal with.



The tape was so course I had a hard time getting the epoxy to fill the voids. This will all have to be ground down and refilled. Same below. I believe these voids may have been caused by outgassing of the epoxy or otherwise temperature related.



So it looks like I've got some quality time ahead with my belt sander and grinder. New fiberglass ordered to finish the keel before I can move onto the bottom and sides.

I find some times that the glass is too stiff and will lift up in places when rounding edges.
When I did my window frames I use 1 oz. glass and even then on the first windows corners I had to squeeze in extra epoxy to keep out the air. The rest of the windows I slightly filled the inside corners to create a small radius and smoothed off the outer edges.

Six hrs of sanding later and near ready for the next layer of fabric.



On the hunt for a new air compressor today. The old one (8gal) just wasn't up to the task. Looking for something in the 30 gal range this time.

Also had to order 40 more yards of 0/90 12 oz biaxial glass. They sent the wrong type (45/45) last time. I'll still use it inside. Should be playing with the sticky stuff anytime now. Standby...

My old air compressor just couldn't cut the mustard so I upgraded.



I have a whole bunch of air tools including sanders but could never use them with the old compressor.

Productivity should go up now!

Rick: Post #487 is a picture of Bateau similar to yours. On top of the forward part of the cabin is a natural wood "signal spar" carrying a steaming light or all around light. Is there a standard name for that wood spar? Anyway, I have one from an old '66 Egg Harbor woodie that I gave up on. I've had the "spar" for 15 yrs, refinished it, sitting in my basement. It might be longer than the one in the picture. Its yours if you want it, my current project is a sailboat, can't use it. Shipping will be problematic, but its located in Highlands, NJ 07732, near NYC. If you're in the area anytime I can run it over to you.
