Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

I only had a couple of hours in the shed this morning before I had to switch into "honey do" mode doing house chores!

I did manage to get the transom frame hung. It still has to be plumbed & leveled. The remainder of the forms will be hung tomorrow then we'll get a real feel for how big this thing is going to be!

Looks a lot bigger when you look down it like a hall way. At least a lot bigger than it did when we were just looking at the pieces on the tables. Can't wait to see it start to come together.

It kinda sneaks up on ya to this point when you're putting all those smaller pieces together then WHAMOO! you set up the form that you'll build the boat on and it all comes into perspective. When we got the last form up I just had to sit there for a moment and wonder at what I've done. In the grand scheme of things a 31' boat isn't that big but it's HUGE but only 'cause I'm doing it all myself with just a lil' help from some friends.

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

A good friend, Ray Martin, stopped in to celebrate with us yesterday. Ray is one of the most talented chef's I've ever had the pleasure of working with. He "tossed" this lil' edible arrangement together for us.

Words can't express how grateful we are to everyone that came. :-)

Anyone for leftovers?

Del,

It is the Law of Inverse Proportions.

Cost twice as much for the yard bill, is half the size when in the water.

Skeleton looks great

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Two parts of port side bottom panel being glued together.

It's going to be trickier doing the other side.

I was standing on a 5 gal bucket and still couldn't see the bow!

That's it for today. More of the same tomorrow.

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

The second set of bottom panels went up slick as ...... Maybe I'm just getting the hang of it.

Alignment on the stern was perfect. Bow needs a little adjustment which will have to wait till this afternoon.

This girl is starting to show her true size. It's getting hard to get around her and get any pics that show anything of interest.

The glue and tape job on the bottom panels I did yesterday didn't turn out as well as I had hoped. I see using quite a bit of epoxy filler in this area. I'll try to do a better job on the other side. It's a little more difficult working up in the air, maybe I should have stitched them together when I had the long table. Oh well, hind sight is always 20/20 eh?

More later.....

Re: And So it Begins . . . Knottybuoyz' New Project

Are there permanent butt blocks backing up the splices, or at the least, temporary cleats to help alignment. Big sucker, ain't she.

In some places the forms are backing up the joints but mostly they're suspended in mid air. No butt blocks at all. I have put a few temp cleats where I needed to join the bottom panels.

Yup all those small parts got turned into bigger parts and now the big parts are slowly turning into a fair size boat!
