That's one nice benefit of using the peelply, no sanding, especially on those large flat panels. I could have left the peelply on to protect the panels until I was ready to use them but was too anxious to see the results!

I couldn't leave it alone very long. This is the transom mold. The first part that'll go up on the strongback.

One down, 8 more frames to go.

I built a cedar strip canoe a long time ago. I got the design from a book and using a grid drew out and cut the strongback out of plywood. The designs were for an 18 1/2 foot canoe. Somehow by the time she came off the strongback she had grown to 20 feet!

You guys crack me up. Don't quit your day jobs for standup comedy though.

To answer Del's question, they don't. The panels just lay on the strongback while they're stitched together. The frames I'm assembling now for the strongback will be thrown away when I'm done. Here's a recent pic of one being built in Holland.

I assembled two more tonight. Six to go. Yes the math is screwy 'cause I said one down and eight to go the other day. I forgot

I have to double Frame F 'cause that's where the hull extension is.

To bad you can't sell the frame setup to some one else that's building the same, or would like too.

Yeah I know. I've got an extra set of plans and will toss in the boat shed as a bonus too!

Do you ever find yourself sitting in your workshop or boat or whatever just admiring your handiwork? I do that occasionally. I think it's just a guy thing. A couple hundred thousand years of evolution has programmed us to get an extreme sense of satisfaction from building things with our own two hands. Reminds me of one of my favorite quotes:

"He who works with his hands is a laborer. He who works with his hands and his head is a craftsman. He who works with his hands and his head and his heart is an artist." - St. Francis of Assis (1181-1226)

Anyhow, 'nuff of that naval gazin' stuff. This morning I got back to assembling the forms that'll go on the strongback. Three more done this morning, A, B & C. Only D and the duplicate F to do and they're done then I can seriously start thinking about setting up the strongback. I do have to decide if we're going to glass the cabin roof while the long table is set up. The only other thing that's standing in my way after that decision is made is to laminate the two transom panels.

Same goes for frame D.

Picked up one of two rolls of fiberglass (1708 38" at bargain price) that'll be used to cover the bottom and side panels. I'm still looking for some double bias 10 oz. 0/90 in 50" width.

That's 'bout it for now. It's hotter 'n hell outside so I think a boat ride is in order. Have a good weekend.

Yep done that enjoying watching your progress too. Here's a dink I built last winter. Nothing like your scale but times were I had to not work in it until I was ready to work at it again. Sometimes I'd look at and think yep that looks good. Now if do this it will be better.
