anchor
Where would I find information where to purchase an achor chain for a Morgan 461 46’, built in 1979? The anchor winch handles a particular size of chain and I am trying to figure out what this size is and how to purchase as the current chain is not sturdy nor the correct size.

Re: anchor
Its the windlass make/model you need not the boat model/size to solve the problem, though someone may suggest a way to measure the gypsy to get chain size.

Re: anchor
As a last check, 1st Chain Supply will send you one foot of any of its chains for $10. I got some chain from a Chinese supply that was labelled as right for my windlass but wasn't quite by a couple of millimeters. It jumps.

Re: anchor
Take the wildcat off the windlass and take it to a good marine store. They can lay the chain in it and tell. It can be deceptive though, "close" may not be good enough. Or contact the windlass manufacturer and ask how to ID the wildcat for chain size, there may be letters or numbers cast into it.

Re: anchor chain
The model is ACW serial number T267 with a mark that looks like a B in the wildcat. Hopefully this can help us to determine a chain size for replacement as the boat is in the Bahamas and can be fairly expensive for shipping.
thank you

And then pick the chain grade, based on the diameter and boat size (ABYC guidlines for 50' boat at 60 knots is 4800 pounds WLL).

I'm not familiar with an ACW brand windlass so can't help much, sorry. If that's the model number, what brand (maker) is it?

Re: anchor
ACW is a model number from Ideal Windlass, now a part of Schaefer. They are still in business, so it may be worth a call to see if they can help with the details.

[Edit]
This may help in identifying the gypsy, although if the boat is remote...

What size chain does my windlass take?
The chain size and type is very specific to the different wildcats. All models are available for many different chain sizes and types. The fit of the chain to the wildcat is critical. Our wildcats have a number cast into them that identifies what size and type chain your wildcat will accept. To find this number look in the flat spaces between the ribs in the wildcat. This is the area where the chain rides. Measure the diameter of your wildcat and refer to the chart below for identification. If you cannot find a number or if it is not listed below, please call the office.

[Edit 2]
An 8 or a 3 (closest I see to something that looks like a 'B') handles 3/8 BBB chain, which would not surprise me on that boat.
