Aluminium Water Tank Outlet

My pressurised water system is sucking air in, and I think it is due to corrosion of the welded outlet pipe at the top of one of the water tanks. There is not really enough good pipe left to get the hose on securely.

So I plan to seal the existing outlet and install a plastic outlet down near the bottom. Downsides I can see are:
  • Risk of leaking
  • Tank will not fully drain
Anything else I should consider? Should I loop the hose up to the top of the tank or will the siphon effect make that pointless?

I also plan to put in a plastic inspection port - not looking forward to what I might find inside.

Prove out your suspicions by using a small diameter hose securley attached to your existing system supply hose (suction side)and putting the smaller diameter hose down through the suspect fitting into the water tank. (or use another opening if available). Your leak might not be at that fitting, but elsewhere in the system. If you are able to draw water and have the pump shut down at pressure, the fitting is bad....if you still are unable to draw water, the leak is elswhere.

Good luck!
