alternitive toe rails, or need cheap

well i need some AL slotted toe rail. west marine has it at over 800 bucks, but it 30 some odd feet long. i need about 8. i have done internet searches and even found a place that has it in 19 foot sections, but still hundreds. does anyone know of a place to get it cheaper, or an alternative way ? i need to bond the deck to transom, and then make it look finished, and i have a way figured i think but toe rail is mucho money. my one idea is 2 AL angles screwed down, one aiming up and one down, but then its not anodized

Hi Scotty,

On my boat the deck and hull are fiberglassed together from the inside. My understanding is that glassing the two together results in the strongest transition, with no holes to leak. Perhaps this would be an avenue to pursue while leaving the aluminum rail as belt and suspenders?

Edit: I'm no naval architect, but I'd give the guys at west systems a call and ask for their advice... probably be the messiest/cheapest way to get strong. (Might turn in to a bit of a resin head in the process though... grin. Fighting gravity and all!)

I don't have a lead on toe rails but assuming you are trying to cover teh hull deck joint, what about vinyl?

well i plan on stuffing the joint with glass and resin. i dont think i can get under the joint. the engine is there and the cock pit is 6 plus feet long. also the toe rail i just want for looks to match the rest of the boat and to hide the joint. i will probably just wet out strips of glass and use a paint stick to fill the joint, then fill with thin epoxy thru some drilled holes after i put the toe rail or what ever on to act as a damn, so no sagging epoxy. i could just make a cake icing like tube and fill it with that, using tape just ahead of where i am pumping the epoxy in. ie cover 3 inches fill it, add 3 more inches of tape and then fill it etc etc etc. i think if i work quick that would work

yes i could use a normal rub rail, but the stock rail is the slotted stuff so i would like to match it.

the toe rail is a T shaped rail just like in the West catalog.
