advice needed for weird drain from mast

Hi all
I have a holland 25, previous owner had a hose under mast draining into a 20 litre container
I was told if I didnt have it the mast would fill up with water,
it does not sound right to me, does anyone have ideas on getting rid of hose

Drill some weep holes in the base of the mast and let it drain into the bilge then. It sounds like the PO didn't want bilge water, so he rigged the hose. If the container is the big issue, get rid of it and replace it with a blivet until you know what is going on.
Here in the states, most diners use a "milk machine" which takes 5 gallon or larger clear plastic blivets of milk, and they throw them away once empty. They'll be happy go give you one, free usually, if you have lunch there when you ask.

Thats a deck stepped mast with a base I assume.
Probably need to go aloft and look for an area on top of the mast head that needs sealing, possibly the VHF Antenna wire if it's inserted into the mast at the head.
Also some spreaders have sockets the tubes are inserted into, some have holes in the socket for wires for spreader lites.
As well check the steaming lite fixture for screw heads sealed.

it has no vhf antennas on top but has haylards running through mast, I would of thought water would drain out of the exits box ?

Not the exit boxes but usually lower there is a dam with drain.

Is this a deck stepped mast or a keel stepped mast? And where does the drainage hose originate?
