Adhesive Sealant Type

Hi All,
I have a skylight that leaks. It is 3' x 5' on top of cabin deck. Currently, is insufficiently sealed with adhesive and rubber gasket to the Lexan glass. To reseal what is the best adhesive/sealant to use?

I believe you are referring to butyl ribbon or tape.

Thanks for the input but the skylight is not encased in a frame. It is 1/2 smoked lexan attached to a 1/4 thick seal by adhesive only, then the seal is attached to the deck by adhesive only. There is NO hardware.
I was just going to use silicone but was informed that it would not hold up. Instead, the old salt me to use a product similar to 5200...but NOT 5200! Said it was an adhesive made by Dow or Dupont. Unfortunately, this discussion took place on a dock in passing and in transit. And me without a pen and suffering with old timers. Go figure.
I might just have to go with silicone.

The 3 most common adhesive sealants used to bond Acrylic, or Polycarbonate to aluminum, stainless, or FRP, are Sika Flex 295 UV with the primer, GE SG-4000, and/or Dow 795.

Silicone will work just fine, If you use ANY other caulk make sure it is UV resistant and by that it should state that it is approved for window use. Butyl tape is good to set the lens in but I would fill caulk with a good quality silicone. Double side tape also is good for setting the lens. Lots of old salts out there but few professionals. Gordy has supplied a good caulk but I have had mixed results and I personally have gone back to plain old silicone as it has yet to fail me.

Good luck

I would recommend the sikaflex and primer over the silicone
