Re: ACCIDENTLY WATER FILLED INTO DIESEL TANK

BeeDrill, that will work. Just keep going until the sight glass shows only diesel. Keep the fuel flowing, and keep draining.

No further filtration needed.

Cheers.
Paul.

Re: ACCIDENTLY WATER FILLED INTO DIESEL TANK

find some 55 gallon drums. you will want 1 more thanit takes to hold your fuel from tank.
find a pump and hoses
fill the barrels with the contents of the tank.
clean tank.
polish fuel using water separation filters. put newly cleaned and separated fuel into the spare barrel. once tank is cleaned and dry and perfect, begin filling with the cleaned and waterless fuel.
sorry there is no easy way to undo a major fail such as this.

One more vote for just pumping the water out of the bottom of the tank and calling it good. A piece of tubing stuck down the fill tube or inspection port works well.

Re: ACCIDENTLY WATER FILLED INTO DIESEL TANK

Crew did this on our ferry several times (bad placement of fills and inexperienced kids)

As said above, put down the checkbook, get out the hose and start pumping or draining till you hit fuel. Then watch your raycors for awhile ;-)

Keep it simple.

how big is you tank, helped a couple of people get the water out using a 12v fuel pump, pumped in to 4 5gal. fuel cans. them refilled the tank, checked the recor filter every hour or two for signs of water.

Re: ACCIDENTLY WATER FILLED INTO DIESEL TANK

My dad did this in the Bahamas, years ago. It wasn't that bad, better than putting diesel in the water tank. Get some 1/4" copper tubing and straighten it out so it can get to the tank bottom. Use a hand pump and suck the water out. Add additives that dry fuel and an extra shot Biobor Jr, you'll be fine.

Re: ACCIDENTLY WATER FILLED INTO DIESEL TANK

This is a funny story. Friend was going to Fla towing a boat, stopped in Ga and told them to fill the boat up. He comes out and the attendant says that's $25 when gas was a 25 cents. He said that's funny how did you get a 100 gallons in a 20 gallon tank. The attendant had put the gas into a rod holder.

Re: ACCIDENTLY WATER FILLED INTO DIESEL TANK

This happened to us...we were relieved it was water into fuel and not the other way around....it took us a while but we used a clear pickup tube and our shop vac, we then dumped the water fuel mix into a plastic tank and took it to the oil and fuel reclamation /recycling station in the commercial docks. Long job, but it worked. Good luck.

Re: ACCIDENTLY WATER FILLED INTO DIESEL TANK

Just looked on the Fram web site. Doesn't look like OP has any sight glasses on the fuel filters. Not good for seeing how far the water has gone through the system.
