A simple question, gloss or matt on the ceiling ?

We can get a product called poly ply, it is a thin plywood that has a hard white poly surface coated and is used for linings of boats, caravans, etc. I got a sheet of gloss for some window surrounds, but now I am wondering if i should have got a matt/satin finish. I got only one sheet, but latter we may replace the ceiling linings.

What do people have, gloss or satin on the ceilings ?

I think that the gloss is easier to clean isn't it ?

I find a gloss finish on a ceiling to be annoying due to the reflection and glare. A satin finish should not be difficult to keep clean. Flat finishes may be harder to clean.

I prefer the satin finish. Its not too glossy, but smarter looking than flat, which looks old and faded.

I got a full gloss single-pot lacquer and had them knock 15% off the gloss level. 1/2 way between gloss and semi-gloss. It cleans well so I'm happen, it hides the odd dodgy bit as well.

We were wondering if the gloss would show every twist and distortion in the ceiling ? Though as the light is mostly internal or reflected that may not be as bad as we anticipate.

Yes, higher gloss finishes tend to highlight any surface imperfections.
If painting (not my first choice), I’d use either a Flat or a Matt "off" white* finish on overheads.
Ceilings are usually painted with a flat finish paint.
Since matte finishes do not reflect as much light, they are good for hiding surface imperfections.
You could also select an eggshell finish if the surface of the ceiling is flawless.
Choose a slightly glossier finish, for good light reflection, & ease of cleaning, only if the the overhead is perfect (no blemishes).
Generally satin, gloss or semi-gloss paints are reserved for trims.
