5 S: An Interesting Philosophy from Japan

First, I must confess a personal fault. My boat is chaos, my truck is chaos, I can't find what I just put down, and I spend a lot of time looking for stuff I know I've got somewhere. I do a number of trades, simultaneously, so I have a lot of tools, a lot of hardware, and a lot of stuff. It is maddening.

Second, I'm always searching for the ideal tool storage system, hardware storage, and information storage, all to little avail because of my proclivity to distraction and acquiring more stuff when I can't find what I was looking for (a preposition is a poor thing to end a sentence with).

Today I found an interesting article that, hopefully, will help me straighten out my miserably complicated life. I respectfully pass it on to others who may suffer from a similar condition: 5S Your Workshop.

Inculcating (one of the precepts suggested in the article) the five suggestions into my life may help me to keep the level of crap down on my boat, keep my tool boxes capable of being lifted out of the truck, and keep me from spending half my time trying to find the chisel or screwdriver I just had in my hand.

I respectfully submit this offering so as to assist in the spiritual and productive enhancement of the lives of my fellow boat grunts.

I like it! Systematize me. Hopefully, you will honor us with before and after picks of your space. (friendly smiley) Good luck, Jon.

I'd post a before, but the Health Department and Port Captain might get hold of them and cause some mischief. Seriously, though, this article has got me thinking about my stuff.
