41.1 Bristol Centerboard

I am repairing the centerboard on our Bristol from damage received during Matthew. This is a 1983 boat and there is considerable side play between the board and trunk. is this by design, and how much play should there be<

Re: 41.1 Bristol Centerboard

8 to 10" per side and quite a bit of "twist"

That sounds like your pin is worn or something like that. That's a lot. Just a general statement as I down own that boat. It amazes me though that your trunk is loose enough to allow that much....?

Re: 41.1 Bristol Centerboard

Usually the play in the board is limited/controlled by the width of the center board trunk. The pin is just a pivot point. There is typically quite a bit of slop in the trunk/board interface so the board doesn't get hung up by marine growth or small stones if you are 'fortunate' to run aground.
