1GM10 Water Pump Removal

Can anyone tell me if the entire water pump can be removed from the engine without removing the forward crankshaft v belt pully?
Thank you in advance Scruffy

Yes it can. Replace cover/bolts with a Speed Seal before re-install. Makes impeller replacement much easier

Re: 1GM10 water pump removal

Thanks rtbates for the response I have heard of speed seal and will go that route at some point in the future upon stabilizing what i just purchased.

My water pump appear to have been leaking for some time beyond the rear water seal hence the need to remove the entire pump assembly. There are many posts about how to replace the seals and the impeller but no definitive information walking me through the removal process. The boat is mile away and I cannot recall the clearanced behind the pully. My recollection was there was not enough room behind the pully to pull the pump out of the block. I will attempt the weekend.
Thanks again Scruffy

Exact same thing here. Leaky pump for ages. Watch the external oil hoses that run below as they tend to get rusted through after years of being dripped on. I replaced my pump, kept the old leaky one as a spare. Used Rustoleum paint on the oil lines as well as buying new ones. Haven't needed them YET. You definitely don't want those oil lines to burst!!!!
