Yanmar YSE12

I was looking at a boat the other day. The listing described the boat as having a 2GM of 18 hp. It turned out that the boat, a 32 ft at 11,000 lbs, had a YSE12. My understanding is that this is not enough power for a boat of this size and weight, and that the parts supply has pretty-much dried up for this engine.

There was some discussion in another old thread as to whether or not a more modern engine would even fit in place of the YSE12. I wouldn't want a $25,000 boat to become a $50,000 boat (there could be, and likely are, other issues).

I'm thinking I ought to avoid this boat.

Thoughts?

I have a 1975 Hunter 30 with a YSE 12. I have pulled it and will install a 2GM20F. It will have plenty of room. Many folks make this type of repower.

Edit: I should have mentioned that it was a little underpowered. ( 9700 lbs displacement).

Re: Yanmar YSE12

Thanks,

Your advice is appreciated. I suspected that the boat would be underpowered. Even the manufacturer switched to a two-cylinder 18 a couple years later.
