Yanmar Warranty

A friend got a 54HP Yanmar Diesel Engine, employed the of Yanmar aknowlidged local mechanic to build it into his Catamarán -after 6 weeks of use the engine stopped to work because of injection pump failor.....the technician of Yanmar built it out of his engine, took it to his workshop and refused to replace it... offerd repair (US$1900.-) new one (US$ 2900.-) and refuses anywarranty replacement - the diesel filter on the engine was original- a racor 500 filter on boatside with a 10 micrón filter on the boat side for protection....THIS IS YANMAR WARRANTY --- useless!

Happened in Panama with the local Dealer TESA

Any Ideea, what my friend should do?

I personally had similar experiances with a YanmarSD 50-4T-in Panama we do not get warranty services from the local dealer

Re: Yanmar warranty

At those prices it couldn't have been a new engine. Probably rebuilt by the mechanic. Not Yanmars responsibility.

Re: Yanmar Warranty

Find out who the Distributor in the area is and complain. Yanmar in the US comes with a 2 year unlimited and a 5 year limited to hard parts.

Yanmar Warranty

Warranty is a funny thing. My ford had 5 year 50,000 Miles's warranty. Somehow that doesn't cover the weird crap coolant hose contraption that failed. With that still like my way heavy cummins low rpm low warranty 4b3.3. Dear Ford, Your kidding the coolant hose has failing O rings and its 599 dollars. Not covered. What idiot engineer designed this. Yes the coolant pisses out of the fitting below 5 years or 50,000 miles.
Nice loop hole.
Better to get something that is rock solid and not tied into screwing its base. Volvo tried screwing sailors this and is now bad mouthed. Yanmar is close, I would look to a beta or cummins, john Deere conversion.

Re: Yanmar Warranty

The local dealer "Tesa" does not care at all- the responable Yanmar North America did not react to our complaint....
and finaly they do not replace the almost new Injection pump....

Re: Yanmar Warranty

They argue, that the diesel (fuel) was bad -there is a racor 500 on the boat side and the original fuelfilter l on the engine..... they allways refuse. I was surprised, that the engeneer from Yanmar (TESA) drove to San Blas to see, what was the reason that the engine not worked.
