Yanmar SD20 SailDrive Questions

For any of you out there with Yanmar SD20 Saildrives I have a quick question about the seal replacement. My manual (2013 SD20's) only talks about inspecting and replacing the rubber diaphragms (inspecting every year, replace every 5 years). While searching on Youtube I found a few videos showing how to replace the oil seals and o rings by removing the propeller to access the inside of the bottom of the saildrive. I don't see anything on this in the manual. Am I just over looking it? How often should this be done? Any thoughts?

Here is the link to the Youtube video

And I've attached two snippets of the manual's instructions for the diaphragms.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Zoid - do you have the manual for the SD20? If not, I can get you a PDF.
I replaced mine at 5 years and they looked fine.

I do have the manual, but for some reason I cannot for the life of me find anything in the manual that talks about how to do it or how often to under periodic maintenance. What page?

That's because they don't know how much monofilament fishing line you are going to wrap up. This stuff kills seals and without it seals will generally last most of the life of the saildrive if well maintained.

Re: Yanmar SD20 SailDrive Questions

I am just surprised it isn't even mentioned in the manual. No instructions given. I have a flexofold two blade folding prop so I guess I just remove that and see. Everything is working fine, which always makes me nervous because messing with something is a good way to cause a problem

Re: Yanmar SD20 SailDrive Questions

You need the Yanmar SD20 service manual, it has the instructions on how to completely strip down and rebuild all parts of the sail drive. heres a link to a pdf copy: https://j109.org/docs/yanmar_sd20_sa...al_epb5547.pdf
I have just used it to do the same job on mine.
