Yanmar oil galley plug
OK, I have a 4-JHE, I want to add an oil pressure gauge, I will keep the warning buzzer.
I could I guess if I have to use a T assuming I could find one of the right thread, but I had rather if possible use another tap into the oil galley, assuming there is one and that is what I'm asking. In all honestly I don't even know where the low oil pressure switch is, I have't looked so I'm assuming I could use a T?
Is there an un-used oil galley tap on a Yanmar 4-JHE? If so , where is it? How is it removed, Allen wrench?

Re: Yanmar oil galley plug
I recently put a pressure sending unit on my 3jh3ce and the plug was located on the oil filter side of the engine towards towards the flywheel end. The plug was removed with an allen wrench. If you are using an automotive type sending unit be aware that that Yanmar use British Pipe thread units, not NPT and NPT senders will not seal. Not to worry though, because most Japanese cars also use BPT senders and they are readily available. Just make sure you buy one rated for the higher oil pressure of a diesel.

Re: Yanmar oil galley plug
It tends to run near 80 at cruising speed and low to mid 70s at idle. My sender is rated for 100 psi

Re: Yanmar oil galley plug
Adding a sender and gauge is high on my 'to do' list. FWIW, my Yanmar shop manual shows a spare wire in the harness from the engine to the panel at the helm. I intend to use this spare in lieu of pulling a new wire to the helm.

Re: Yanmar oil galley plug
The wire was already in the harness on my engines as well. I fed mine into an NMEA 2000 converter rather than a conventional gauge.

That is higher than I would have thought, but I like it. I believe there is a correlation with high oil PSI and bottom end life.

Re: Yanmar oil galley plug
My 3JH runs over 100# on start up but drops to around 70 when at cruising speed. Most diesels have a high oil pressure due to the compression ratio.
And BTW, I have a new Yanmar sender with the BPT that came off my motor durning the install. I went to an after market gauge set. And I put in a T for both types of senders.
If you would like the sender, I'll send it to you!

I sure appreciate it, but I plan on finding a gauge that I'm sure is not a Yanmar gauge.
I'd like it to match my current fuel gauge which looks like an old Stewart Warner type

Re: Yanmar oil galley plug
Know what you mean! I went with a total custom set.
Also, here is a chart that may come in handy in selecting a gauge set.

Re: Yanmar oil galley plug
I dont have the same model Yanmar as you but it probably has the same oil pressure sender & I used a 1/8" 316 ss BSP tee in it to run sender & an aftermarket gauge

I went with this one, matched my fuel the closest. I won't be going the full Monty, but I did want oil PSI

On mine I used a BPT "T" from an online supplier. Once it arrived I retapped the very end to a NPT and used that for the aftermarket sender.
