Yanmar GM30 Water in fuel alarm

Refueled today ,a rare occurance ,switched on tank guage alarm shows water in fuel , have dismantled and cleaned fuel filter water separater alarm still shows same i thought if you disconnected wires from base of filter ,panel shouldnt register alarm.Anyone had same problem as i cannot figure out how once filter been drained and refilled how alarm stays on.To try to get to base of problem even unplugging the wires doesnt stop the alarm.???

i've never seen a GM with the WIF alarm set up.

Alarm set up on base of fuel filter not on engine sorry for the confusion just found in the past to include as much info as possible eliminates unnecessary replies and can usually put someone with experience in the picture.

so the wif is in the bottom of the Racor fuel water separator before the engine. Yes, un- pluging it should deactivate the alarm. Now, was the engine running or just key on while you were doing the testing?

Thanks Never Monday,yes,tried both,suspect wires to alarm panel must be touching to activate alarm will start at guage and work backwards.

If the key was just "on" and the engine not running it may have been the oil pressure alarm and not the WIF sensor.
