Yanmar Excessive Vibration

Hi, my Yanmar 2GM20F seems to vibrate way too much on its flexible mounts. They could possible be 20 years old if previous owners never replaced them. That's probably why I need to replace the dripless stuffing box. I just wanted to make sure that replacing the flexible mounts will help the vibration issue. Especially because they cost $130 each.

Thanks,
Aaron

The mounts can wear out, but does your engine jump and shimmy while in gear and pushing the boat? It's relativly normal for these engines to look like they want out when they're at low idle and not in gear.

I did read that the Yanmar mounts are quite flexible.

My 1GM10 shakes alot in idle but settles down at cruising RPM. The mounts are 8 years old. Check in gear.

Check you alignment...

We had a 2GM20F in our prior yacht, a 1976 Cal 2-29, swinging a 2-blade fixed prop and the engine was always very smooth running. The only time we had any vibration, it proved to be a mis-alignment problem as a result of a mount lock-nut that had loosened somewhat.

FWIW...
