It has a standard electric guage on the multi-guage Yanmar panel.

Any chance the filter was just changed? Not uncommon for the rubber seal from the old filter to stick to the case, then when the new is installed it rolls the old seal resulting in what happened to you.
And yea, if the engine stopped suddenly, then restarted after cooling, I wouldnít go too far from the dock in it till overhauled...

No need for a web search. Just a Forum search will do the job. We old timers never forget.

Different engine, and I assume a different cooler.
In truth Iím confused as to why there is a cooler, there usually is not on the same engines when used in tractors and mowers, and those are usually run a lot harder.

Re: Yanmar 4JHE oil pressure collapse.

I also did a web search and all I could find was one cooler that was leaking water slightly and upon disassembly, the tube was essentially rotted off where the hose slid over it.
Not to say they donít fail on the 4JHE, but seems either they donít often or they are not talked about on the internet.

Let us know please the ultimate outcome of your engine, mine had sprung a leak a couple of years ago and the low oil pressure alarm was chirping, so I investigated, it didnít quit and I assume it still had some oil pressure and near as I can tell thereís wasnít any harm since itís run well for a couple of years so far.
I doubt yours seized, if it restated soon after, I hope it didnít anyway.

From what I've heard it's on many of the 4JH's including the 4E and 5E. Mine was a 3E. The 4 and 5 are much easier to service as far as the water pump and impeller go but seem to have the same oil cooler problems. When mine gets a bit longer in the tooth I'm going to an after market cooler with an anode. Should have done it when mine went but the yard was a Yanmar dealer.

Re: Yanmar 4JHE oil pressure collapse.

Thank you to all the helpful replies. Luckily the problem was simple and easily fixed.
The seal for the oil filter had a kink in it and suddenly let go which spewed oil everywhere. Was my fault as I did an oil and filter change recently so must have snegged the rubber seal when I fitted it.

Re: Yanmar 4JHE oil pressure collapse.

Good, glad it was simple.
A little clean grease on the O ring of the oil filter helps make it seal easily on installation. I used to use oil, then got in the grease habit with aircraft as that is what was recommended.
