Yanmar 4jh4te stop solenoid

Hi all
Any help gratefully received
My yanmar runs beautifully but does not stop when the button is pressed!
I have changed the red stop button as I know this is common issues when corroded etc but this has still not resolved the issue.
I now believe that the stop solenoid has broken.
I have searched everywhere on the engine for the stop solenoid which I believe is a solenoid with a plunger on one end that pulls or pushed the kill rod! Is this the case?
I just can't find it anywhere.
Does my engine have a different system and how do I locate? If anyone can supply a part number that would be great. Very frustrating

Your engine doesn't seem to have the solenoid with push/pull rod, but a cut off solenoid mounted to the injection pump:

119171-67200 SOLENOID, FUEL CUT, section 28 in the parts manual

hellish expensive!! make sure you test the old one thoroughly

This may sound dumb - But, make sure you remove/turn the key off AFTER you push the button.

I've done this myself and almost pulled the fuel switch because I thought the solenoid stuck too!

Our 4jhte won't turn off without the key in the "ON" position.

From memory I think it is a Bosch injector pump and I have read it has a large thread
Great advice and hope it works! Based in the uk and they are approx price of 20 dollars which is a far cry from 300 dollars

take out your old one and test it/have it tested. And have it cross referenced too. Standard automotive solenoids seem to "open on energize". I think you need a "close on energize".

Is your boat an ex charter boat?
Has the red stop button ever worked?

Charter boats often have the red stop button disconnected for some weird reason. It just needs to be reconnected, but how, I don't know.

Agreed need one that closes on energised. Have found one online from a store in the uk that actually has in the description that it works on marine applications and closes when powered. 40 dollars so might as well replace

FWIW, I painted mine white so I can find it in an emergency.

It may not be a problem with the solenoid. I am told they rarely fail. After I paid a bunch to have mine replaced on the same engine on my Tayana 42 still no luck. turned out it was a corroded connection between the kill switch and the solenoid. mine was located below the exhaust elbow. Check the wiring diagram for any connections in that circuit. A little coolant leak can cause a lot of trouble with these connections.

There is one other thing that you might want to check. I had the same problem of the engine not shutting off and I checked it while a crew member pushed the button. The solenoid was working but the screw that holds the fuel cut off lever to the solenoid has come loose to the extent that the fuel lever did not pull far enough when the solenoid was activated. Tighten up the screw and it worked fine.

An update for everyone. I have removed the existing solenoid after checking that I was getting power to the solenoid. So I presumed the solenoid must be the problem.
Once removed I have tested the solenoid with a separate battery and when energised it shuts perfectly and whilst power is connected works like a dream.
So I am now lost as the solenoid works.
I have some ideas left but not many.
Wonder if the earthing is poor once screwed in to thread as I presume the earth comes from the engine and is transmitted through the thread?
I could not find the washer around the pin that drops on the solenoid so wonder if this maybe a problem?
Any other ideas would be appreciated?
