Yanmar 3YM30 tube stack

This item was a recall for Yanmar a few years back. I missed it. But now I have to replace the old one with a bigger one. A mechanic wants $500 for this, am I getting ripped off? I have no way of telling. I can't seem to find the product on line to see how much it cost. Any help from you fine folks is greatly appreciated.

By tube stack do you mean heat exchanger? If so there was a thread last week I think that had links to aftermarket heat exchangers.

I guess I do mean the heat exchanger if the tube stack isn't a separate part of it. He just said the tube stack.

Yanmar 3YM30 tube stack

If you do get a new one, keep the old one. Seemingly it works well enough to be a spare.
I'd call your Yanmar dealer you use now for parts and ask. If you don't have one, now is the time to find one, before you need a part yesterday. Sorry I can't comment on parts, but gut feeling is he isn't ripping you off, but check.

Okay, tube stack is indeed the inside element of a heat exchanger. Sorry for that.

I don't have a dealer, the PO didn't leave any manuals etc. I'll google. Thanks

I helped a friend do this on his 3YM30. He had overheat issues many times before Yanmar admitted to the problem. The original tube core had less tubes then the replacement.

The Heat exchanger tube core cost about $300 US as I recall plus gaskets.

So probably not a bad price labor and parts. It will take about 1-1/2 to 2 hours to replace depending on how tight the space.

This is not a hard DIY project if you are handy.
