Yanmar 3QM30F valve clearance

I want to check the valve clearance on a 3QM30F engine. I have the spec for clearance from the shop manual, but am not sure of the timing sequence. My interpretation of the timing info given in the shop manual and what I see when manually rotating the shaft do not match up. I am looking for the folllowing info:
1) physical location of cylinders 1, 2 , and 3
2) firing order of same
3) best sequence of rotation to check the clearances and angular displacement to get there.
Almost certainly the 'error' is in my interpretation of the manual. I would be most interested in a response from someone who has performed this task.

Can you refer me to a specific volume? My search at Amozon resulted in manuals for outboards only.

The first time I did my valve adjustment on my 3QM30F I hired a Yanmar mechanic to walk me through it. I did all the work but had him there with me. Took longer so cost more, but I hope I learned something. Will know the next time I have to do it. I'll see if I can find my notes.
